Rocco Boulay, CSCS (certified strength and conditioning specialist)
owns Integrity Health Support for Women in Londonderry, NH. The health facility
specializes in weight training, fat loss and nutritional support, with an emphasis
on the importance of diet for overall health.
"I have a great deal of sympathy for people trying to make competent food choices when much of what's available is nutrient deficient. With a vast difference in quality available in grocery stores, to the fast food places on almost every corner, people can be led into an unhealthy dietary trap," says Boulay. "The consequences of these choices contribute not only to the obesity epidemic, but to all the related conditions from high blood pressure and cholesterol, to intestinal disorders and type 2 diabetes due to diet related insulin resistance."
With a median client base of 43 years old, Boulay says he sees many of the above conditions. "Many people develop these problems because they choose foods with addictive components which are difficult to digest thus contributing to candida overgrowth along with the initial intestinal problems." He suggests eating foods that are protein based, high fiber, low glycemic vegetables every three hours to break the euphoric feelings that accompany poor food choices. Once, the patterns have been broken, it is much easier to make improved dietary decisions, and in fact, the body begins to crave what it truly needs to function optimally.
